Servant Leadership (Under Construction)

"Everything rises and falls on leadership." said John C. Maxwell, president of Injoy Group. "The effectiveness of your work will never rise above your ability to lead and influence others.  You cannot produce consistently on a level higher than your leadership.  In other words, your leadership skills determine the level of your success - and the success of those who work around you."  However, he added, "Leadership begins with the heart, not the head."

LEADERSHIP ETHICS - principles of acceptable, standard practice for behavior and actions of those who lead.

Bobb Biehl, president of Master Planning Group, said it is crucial for a Christian leader to understand clearly the distinction between what is ethical, what is moral, and what is legal.

Ethics are relative to the immediate environment - to local and cultural standards of business, for
          example.
Morals, on the other hand, are based on an absolute standard - the Bible.
Legality is based on coded law.

If something is illegal... it violates the law.
If it's immoral... it violates a Biblical standard.
If it's unethical... it does not conform to standard, acceptable practice.

Peter F. Drucker, world renowned expert on management wrote on the essence of leadership, "As a leader, you are visible, incredibly visible.  And you have expectations to fulfill...You'd better realize that you are constantly on trial.  The rule is:  I don't want to see a pimp in the mirror when I shave in the morning.  If you do see one, then your people will see one, too."

On Leadership From the Bible

Someone has said, "What in heaven does the Bible have to do with leadership?  Everything!"

The Bible is the most widely-read book in the world.  It is best known for its religious precepts and guidance.  Read carefully it is also the great collection of leadership lessons ever written for today's leaders.  For instance:

"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."  (Proverbs 27:17)

"If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success."  (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers - not because you must, but because your are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.  And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away."  (1 Peter 5:2-4)
