What's Going On?
THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM?

Then Jesus said to the disciples, "Have faith in God.  I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen.  But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.  I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you've received it, it will be yours.  But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too."  Mark 11:22-26 (NLT).

"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other.  Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.  Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."  Jesus, according to John 13:34-35 (NLT).

"Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle.  Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love.  Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.  For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.  There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all."  (The Apostle Paul, Ephesians 4:1-6  NLT).

One of the pastors who led our LIFE Prayer Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin sent this following letter to every participant church:

"After thinking a lot while driving to CANADA, one [thought] came into my mind.  How can we make the churches in _____ to be one church?  How can we make ajarn's and ajarn's and ajarn's... to be one church? Actually, from the meeting, we are one church already, the church of Jesus Christ.  The real question is not so how we can make it one church, but how can we make it real?  How can we make others to see our churches not the church of ajarn this ajarn that, but the church of Jesus?"

That's a good point.   How can we make sure people will see that we we are actually one Church of Jesus Christ?   This seems to be the impossible dream.  But we still dream someday we will call a "LAO INTERNATIONAL PRAYER ASSEMBLY" or L. I. P. A. and invite all our church leaders to gather to seek God's agenda for our community.  By this, we hope to seek God's plan for strengthening the unity among Laotian churches around the world.

WHAT IS A "PRAYER ASSEMBLY" ?

A visible union of Christian leaders

gathering in an isolated environment to spend a prolonged time on our faces before the Lord Jesus Christ and to seek God's agenda

 for our community.

 A Prayer Assembly includes

some teaching, but far more prayer - corporate prayer, small group prayer, fasting and solo prayer alone with God.

Our model is Acts 1 and 2, "They all joined together constantly in prayer... They were all together in one place.  Suddenly... they were all filled with the Holy Spirit."

There are no hidden agendas.  The Prayer Assembly is not a platform for ministries to recruit for their causes.  Truly the only agenda is to meet with God.  No books are sold, no albums made available... [In most cases] no speakers speak (only share some thoughts that may seem to be appropriated).  Believe it or not, no musicians [should] perform.  As one pastor wrote, "It's like going to a conference with JESUS as the Guest Speaker."

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

At a Prayer Assembly, we will rally around only twofold of purpose:  Jesus and Lost Souls, or Spiritual Awakening of The Church and World Evangelism.

We want to lead every pastor and lay leader into "experiencing the upper room" where we catch a vision of the exalted Christ, where we revive our spiritual passion and where we are empowered to take our cities for Christ.

The Prayer Assembly is not an end in itself.  Rather it's a model for take back into our local churches, so that the local church itself can be the"House of Prayer" it's destined to be.

IS UNITY REALLY POSSIBLE?

"Unity sounds great, but is it possible? Can it work?  Has it ever worked?  Does unity mean we always have to agree or be the same?  Absolutely not!" wrote Dr. Joseph Aldrich.

"Unity is not unanimity. Nor is it uniformity.  When we have true unity, we don't all have to be the same.  Furthermore, unity is not union.  God has not called us into some kind of structural or organizational union.  Paul's command is that we keep (not make) the unity that we already have because of our union with Christ.

Like it or not, we're "members of one another"   Furthermore, we're interdependent.  We need each other. And the world needs us to be biblical in our support and concern for each other. We're to rejoice and suffer together.  (See 1 Corinthians 12:25-26).

If I'm joined to Christ and you're joined to Christ, we're joined to each other.  Permanently.

"UNITED WE STAND, DEVIDED WE FALL" says it all.  And it's probably true.

What would it take to move God's people toward the unity for which Christ prayed in John 17?  For ten years or more I've thought and prayed about what it would take to start and sustain a movement of God in a community.  With an emphasis on SUSTAIN.  I keep coming back to unity as the starting point.

But haven't we been there before?  We have seen how evangelists have drawn leaders together in common cause for a short time.  An operational unity developed that enabled a degree of cooperation in a united, city-wide thrust.  We applaused it and wondered if such a cooperative mission could be sustained.

When the crusade was over, however, it seemed like the local leaders returned to their ruts.  Something turned down the divine rheostat.  The light dimmed to normal as the power of a united vision diminished, flickered, and died.

What's the battle plan for the Church?  John 17 lays out Christ's strategy for members of His church.  Unity releases power.  Unity attracts the blessing of God.  Unity captures the attention of an unbelieving world.

   Psalm 133 reads:

"How good pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity... For there the LORD bestows [commands] His blessing"  (1, 3).

Where does the Lord command His blessing?  Where does He direct His enablement?  In what kind of an environment does He release His power?   WHERE

THERE IS UNITY ! "
